The Experiment

A study spanning from 1992 all the way to 2010, examined over 15,000 adults across the country between the ages of 45 and 80 that were married or had been in the past. Nearly 33% of the individuals studied were divorced at some point in their life. During the study, published in Circulation: Cardiovascular Quality and Outcomes, 8% of the individuals tested had a heart attack. The interesting fact found during this study was that a divorced woman had a 24% increased chance of having a heart attack. For the women that divorced twice during this span of research, they had a 77% increased chance of a heart attack. These probabilities were much higher than they were with men. Only men that divorced more than one time had a higher risk of heart attack, at a rate of 30%.
