One of the nice things about being around for a while is that I have met a lot of really nice people who periodically update me (and everyone else on their email list) with interesting articles and insights.  One of those people is Nancy Zalusky Berg, who decided that all of us would be better served if we read an article by Eileen Barker titled “The Case for Forgiveness in Legal Disputes”.  She is a family law mediator in California and has some terrific things to say about mediation, divorce, and the human psyche in general.  The article is 35 pages long, and well worth reading. Much of the time, people who use me as a mediator are not yet in a place where they can forgive, but I really do think it is a good idea.   California and Minnesota tend to be on the cutting edge of a lot of ADR processes, and this is another example.
